Continuing to enjoy reading about your adventures. Don't know if you know this, but there was a Yellow-billed Loon in San Diego in the winter of 2022-2023. A Christmas time gift to San Diego birders. Would be much nicer to see them in their breeding habitat. Lucky you!
I admit, we are pretty bad at paying attention to rarities, so we hadn't heard about the YBLO in SD! Amazing! And your photo is incredible! One of the true joys of working so far north is definitely getting to see the birds in breeding plumage: snow buntings, longspurs, loons, etc, all looking so brightly dressed for the ball! That said, any bird in any plumage is perfect!
